INSTRUCTOR BIO: MISS APRIL

“My name is April Sandoval, and I am currently a graduate student at Samford University pursuing my Master’s in Architecture.
I started dancing at the age of 5 back home in Gwinnett, Georgia. By the age of 10, I was a part of my studio’s audition-only dance company, where I was able to compete and place at competitions around the United States like UBC, YAGP, NYCDA, and many more. Along my time at this pre-professional company, I studied at various dance intensives each summer, including The Miami City Ballet and Houston Ballet. In high school, I was a member of my school’s dance team and captain my junior and senior year’s.
During undergrad at Samford, I was a member of the Samford Dance Company, where we studied classical modern and ballet work, along with a variety of styles that we performed. While in Dance Company, we studied from various professional dancers and choreographers and took classes at other training companies like STEPS on Broadway, New York City.
I grew up studying the Vaganova technique in ballet and performed in various classical ballets like The Sleeping Beauty. I was also trained in Balanchine technique, performing George Balanchine ballets and variations, which have become my personal favorite.
I have been beyond blessed to work at NJAD and have grown such a big heart for this amazing studio.”
This is Miss April’s third season with NJAD.
